We offer customizable two-week externships for third- and fourth-year students and pre-clinical experiences for first- and second-year students to build confidence in clinical skills and expertise. Mentorship Program
for Recent Grads
Our New Graduate Mentorship Program is designed to give you confidence in your clinical skills and knowledge. It consists of four phases, and guidance is provided in a one-to-one setting with one of our highly trained veterinarians.
- Systems training for practice management software, production and scheduling tools, and payroll
- Roundtable meetings for new team members to foster collaboration with colleagues from various locations and critical company leaders
- Your first schedule will include 60-minute appointments, mainly for wellness visits and routine medical cases, to allow for regular check-ins with your mentor DVM
- Initial clinical skills inventory and review with DVM mentor to determine gaps and areas of interest for development/improvement
- “Crucial Conversations” training to expand your development in conflict management and effective communication skills
- Personal finance consultation (optional) and set your goals (managing debt, student loans, insurance, and investment)
- Continue roundtable meetings for Q&A and collaboration with other team members
- Adjust appointment schedule to 45 minutes, assess caseload and procedures progress
- Complete “Getting Things Done” training to hone your time management skills
- Records training for best practices in maintaining quality medical records
- Video assessments of your exam room interactions and advice from experienced practitioners to improve how you interact with others
- Adjust appointment times to 30 minutes (or as appropriate)
- Review of clinical skills inventory and development goals
- Review CityVet CE calendar of events and personal CE plan for the coming year
- Outline any areas of interest for future development (personal and professional)
- Prepare for annual review (HR, production, and clinical metrics)
